How to Choose the Right Dallas Magician for Your Corporate Event

Updated: Aug 31, 2023

Maybe you're looking for entertainment for your business convention? Perhaps you're looking to bring in an act for your company Christmas party? Whatever the case may be, you might be looking to hire a magician in Dallas.

The question you have now is: how do you find the right one? It's fairly simple, really. All you have to do is utilize the following tips.

Without further ado, here's how to hire the right magician for your corporate event in Dallas.

Consider Experience

One of the first things you'll want to do when assessing a magician is to consider his or her experience level. Generally, the more experienced a magician is, the greater the show he or she will put on.

And this doesn't just include magic experience. This includes entertainment experience as well. A magician may be great at magic, but if he or she's never performed in front of an audience, his or her performance skills could be sub-par.

It's best to choose a magician who has been performing professionally for at least a few years. While a newbie might be able to put on a good show, you shouldn't risk your money or reputation on it.

Cater to Your Audience

Magicians come in many different forms. Whereas some are standard, run-of-the-mill performers who put magic above all else, others use their magic as a supporting component in their act.

For instance, you might find a magician who is also a comedian. Or, you might find a magician who adds elements of drama to his or her magic. You might even find a magician who appeals to young kids.

Your job is to choose a magician who caters to your particular audience. Consider the personality types of the patrons at your event, and then find a magician who jibes with those personality types. I particularly love to hit the comedy aspect during my performances. It's always a big hit with my clients, and one time the CEO actually gave me names of people he wanted me to pick on during the show!

Check Out a Show

While you could hire a magician based on the word of a friend or the viewing of a short video clip, you're advised to research a little further. Only by seeing your prospective magician's full show can you truly get a feel for what he or she has to offer.

Now, you don't necessarily have to do this for every magician you come across. In fact, that would likely be impossible. But it is recommended for the magicians who have made your shortlist.

First, see if you can find a full show on YouTube or some other video listing site. If you can't find one, simply ask your prospective magician about the possibility of catching one of his or her shows in person. I've had potential clients swing by one of my public shows on occasion. If they don't have the time, or if my upcoming shows are all private, I always offer to demonstrate how I'll entertain their guests, by either visiting their home or meeting up at a local coffee shop.

Another tip is to check out online review sites. Sites such as Facebook and Google are loaded with customer reviews for all types of businesses, helping the potential customers of those businesses to decide whether or not they're worth doing business with.

If a magician has received mostly rave reviews on these sites, his or her services are likely worth pursuing. If, on the other hand, he or she has received primarily poor reviews, his or her services are best avoided.

Generally, it's best to hire a magician with at least a 4-star rating out of 5. Note, however, that in some cases, online ratings can be deceiving. For this reason, you need to comb through them carefully.

Look for Professionalism

Just because an individual is a magician doesn't necessarily mean that he or she is a professional. Fortunately, it's fairly easy to tell the difference between an amateur and a pro. The majority of the information you need can be found on your prospective magician's website.

First of all, make sure that your prospective magician actually has a website. In this day and age, any truly professional individual will have a website for his or her potential clients to peruse.

Once you've found your prospective magician's website, you need to give it the twice-over. Ensure that its images are of high quality, that it doesn't contain any misspellings, and that its design is attractive and up-to-date in general.

If a magician has gone to the trouble of creating a high-quality website, he or she has demonstrated a dedication to his or her craft. This is a level of dedication and professionalism that you can trust.

Ask About Insurance

While it's a fairly rare occurrence, from time to time, magic shows result in damage to either human beings or property. For occasions such as these, magicians need to have liability insurance policies on their side.

Insurance is important not only for the magician, but for the person who hires the magician. Should you hire an uninsured magician who goes on to cause damage to your event guests or grounds, you could be held responsible for the damages.

In essence, before you sign any contracts, make sure to explicitly ask about insurance. Any reputable magician will show you a copy of his or her policy.

Inquire About Prices

Every event is different, and every event has a budget. Magicians charge a varied range of rates. Whereas a seasoned magician with years of performing experience may charge $4,000 per show, a newbie magician may charge only $100 per show. The key for you is to find a magician whose rate fits into your budget.

Fortunately, this isn't difficult to do. Any reputable magician will gladly provide you with a monetary quote for your prospective event. All you have to do is ask around and make a list of the magicians whose rates suit your event's budget.

Before you come to an agreement with a specific magician, make sure that you're fully aware of the costs that you'll be expected to pay. If you live in Florida and are hiring a specific magician from Dallas, expect there to be travel or hotel fees added to the cost of the performance.
